SUNSHINE Coast grandmother Janene Stanley isn't afraid to get extreme.

The Mountain Creek resident has tried her hand at being a trapeze artist and even had a crack at a water jetpack.

But her biggest challenge is coming up.

The thrillseeker will abseil down the Gold Tower in Brisbane to raise funds for Save The Children as part of the Ultimate Urban Abseil on May 16 and 17.

All funds raised from the event go to Save the Children's Queensland programs, which include early childhood care and development, supporting young people in the juvenile justice system and improving access to education for indigenous children.

"The thought of leaning out over the side of the Gold Tower terrifies me, but if by participating in this event it helps to improve the life of even one child, then it has been worth it," she said.

"It's the first step that is always the hardest, as is the case with most things in life, but when I challenge myself and overcome my fears I feel empowered. …
