SWIMMING: Sunshine Coast products Brittany Elmslie and Melanie Schlanger promoted their Commonwealth Games claims at the Australian Swimming Championships in Brisbane last night.

They shared fourth place in the 100m freestyle, both touching the wall in 54.06 seconds.

The race was won by Cate Campbell in 52.68sec.

While the top three placegetters earned automatic qualification for the event at the Glasgow Games, Elmslie and Schlanger did enough to push their selection claims for the 4x100m relay team, especially as their time was of A-qualifying standard.

Schlanger had already booked a spot in the national team with a third place and A-qualifier in the 50m freestyle on Thursday.

Elmslie should also be strongly considered for the 4x200m freestyle relay team after finishing third in the individual final with a B-qualifying time on Tuesday.

She could also be considered for the 50m butterfly after snaring third place in that event on Friday. …
