EVERYONE wants their kids to be happy and successful and with this in mind, Gillwinga Public School is leading the way in the Clarence Valley through the introduction of You Can Do It program.

School principal Phil Cavanagh said the program developed a comprehensive set of five essential social and emotional skills in students.

"I'm impressed with our students' rapid learning of the You Can Do It program and I'm happy that our students are developing these five essential life skills which will help them become successful and happy members of our community," he said.

The five foundations or keys to success that children are assisted to develop are: getting along, organisation, confidence, persistence and resilience.

These vital skills are taught systematically and regularly so the children have a thorough knowledge of each skill and how to put it into practice.

These skills are reinforced formally on assemblies and continually taught and developed every day within the classroom and playground. …
