Valley Residents Quick to Shop at Town Centre

IT'S been a long time coming for Pioneer Valley residents and they were keen to show their support for the area's new town centre, coming out in the hundreds to the opening of the shopping complex on Mackay-Eungella Rd.

Marian resident Kylie O'Keefe said shoppers had been forced to travel to Walkerston or in to Mackay in the past to get the majority of their groceries.

"We bought a house here when my seven-year-old son was born and we've been waiting for a supermarket since then," she said.

"Everyone is so thrilled. It's a long time coming.

"It will be so handy not to have to drive so far away just to pick up bread and milk and things like that."

Ms O'Keefe said a gym, chemist, doctor and other shops at the complex were convenient additions.

She said she was keen to check out a new Subway and fish and chip shop, also at the complex.

Tipalea Partners managing director Scott Spanton, whose company developed the Marian Town Centre project, said he was "catching his breath" after an "overwhelming" soft opening of the complex. …
