New Station a Perfect Fit; Updated Headquarters Give Minnie Water Firies Much-Needed Space

MINNIE Water's Rural Fire Brigade is fired up for the opening of their new headquarters today.

Minnie Water captain Bill Robinson said the new station would be a big step up for the small volunteer brigade, which has protected the local community from bushfire since it was formed in the late 1970s.

"We're very excited about it," he said.

"It's a three-bay shed, compared with the old one-bay shed - the worst part about the old facilities was that they were all asbestos.

"We don't have to worry about that any more."

Mr Robinson said he hoped the new station would raise morale and attract more membership.

"Our brigade is very small but you never have to ask twice to get crew to go out on a job," he said.

Chief Superintendent Lance Rainey said the opening was the culmination of years of hard work by brigade members.

"These men and women remain on-hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we should be extremely proud and grateful for their contribution," he said

"This station is a testament to how diligently and tirelessly the Minnie Water brigade volunteers have worked to turn their dream of a new station into a reality. …
