Barber's Hoping to Be King of the Cut-Throats!

A BARBER is one step closer to becoming Britain's king of wet shaves. Chris Moon, who runs the Kutz Barber Shop chain in North Shields and Whitley Bay, beat off razor sharp competition 14 other local barbers to be crowned the North East's Best Wet Shaving Barber.

He was judged on a number of criteria such as preparation, razor technique, after shave routine, health and safety and overall efficiency.

The dad-of-one has now reached the national final of Britain's Best Wet Shaving Barber, an event organised by the British Barbers' Association and male grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge.

The final will feature a very special "speed-shaving" tournament inside a boxing ring at Barber Connect 2014, to be held at the luxurious Celtic Manor Hotel, near Newport, on Sunday, May 25.

Eight barbers, including Chris, will battle it out in an FA Cup style competition, with the winner landing themselves the prestigious title of Britain's Best Wet Shaving Barber, a starring role in a shaving commercial for The Bluebeards Revenge, and PS3,000 of grooming products.

Chris, who started out as his father's apprentice and is a third generation barber, excelled in every aspect of the regional heat.

He said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to have made it to the final, and I'm keen to get on and show the judges what I've got.

"Winning would mean everything to my family and I, as barbering has been a tradition passed down through the generations since my grandfather opened his first shop back in 1938."

Mike Taylor, director of the British Barbers' Association, said: "All the entrants have put in a fantastic effort so far, and it's great to see such a return in enthusiasm for the traditional wet shave.

"The final is set to be a really exciting event, where we'll see some very high quality skills in action. …
