FLORIDA FIRST LADY VISITS BAKER SCHOOL

Ann Scott, Florida's first lady, will be in town for a visit to Westside Elementary School Friday morning to read to students and answer their questions, according to the governor's website. Scott frequently spends time with students at schools and libraries across the state and encourages them to read and write, eat healthy and get outside and play.

YOUNG MUSICIAN WINS SCHOLARSHIP

John Pace, an 11th-grader at St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park, has received a $500 scholarship in honor of Joy Myers, the founder of Concert on the Green. A vocalist, Pace has studied and played the clarinet since fourth grade. He also is a member of the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra and Clay County Community Band.

Safe Animal Shelter at 2913 County Road 220 just west of the Knight Boxx Road is having Dog and Car Wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. A minimum donation of $5 is requested.

COMMUNITY BAND TO PERFORM

The Nassau Community Band will have a free spring concert heading into this weekend. It will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2600 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach.

FORT MOSE CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY

Fort Mose Historic State Park will host a re-enactment to commemorate the 276th anniversary of the founding of the first legally sanctioned free black settlement in the continental United States. The event will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 15 Fort Mose Trail, St. Augustine. Admission is an optional $2.
