LNP Trumpets Shorter Home Waiting Lists

THE State Government has cut into the big number of Mackay families stacked up on the affordable housing waiting list by reducing the numbers by a claimed 21%.

However, the Federal Government in next month's budget is set to slash one of the programs successfully used in Mackay, the National Rental Affordability Scheme, which gives people access to subsidised housing.

State Housing and Public Works Minister Tim Mander said the government in two years had reduced Mackay's public housing waiting from 683 households to 538, making strides in providing more social and affordable housing.

"We have been putting people into houses by building them. We have provided alternative products to help people get into housing such as the NRAS, and by managing the waiting list more efficiently," he said.

In Mackay, through Queensland Department of Housing, it has issued 634 bond loans to people that are being paid back at a manageable rate. …
