Aiming to Be the Employer of Choice; Ealing Hospital NHS Trust Is at the Forefront of Change in the Delivery of Services and Is Recruiting Nurses to Strengthen Its Approach and Drive Forward

CHANGE means opportunity, and with health and social care in north-west London currently undergoing significant service transformation, Ealing Hospital NHS Trust has plenty of opportunities for nurses.

"We are driving forward greater levels of integration through pioneering projects and devising our workforce strategies to meet new requirements," says David McVittie, chief executive. "This creates unique opportunities for the nursing profession and that is why we are investing in our nursing workforce in a way that inspires a generation of nurses to deliver skilful and compassionate care."

Ealing "aims to be the employer of choice in London", according to Deborah Kelly, deputy director of nursing. "We have a clear strategy about how we intend to achieve this, placing professionals at the vanguard of innovative and dynamic practice."

Her passion and enthusiasm is echoed by Katriona Kennedy, head of medicine and care of the elderly at Ealing Hospital NHS Trust, who adds: "This is a very exciting time to join Ealing Hospital as a member of staff. We are growing and developing all the time and we need new nurses with fresh ideas and a great attitude to join us."

With the delivery of services changing, Ealing Hospital NHS Trust, which incorporates the community services of Brent, Ealing and Harrow, is recruiting for a wide range of nurses, including community and acute nursing, and is looking to fill roles in a one-stop recruitment event later this month.

DISTRICT NURSES "As care pathways are changing and shifting care closer to home, it means opportunities for district nurses and intermediate care services to be at the forefront of the redesigning of services," says Kelly.

HEALTH VISITING Ealing, Brent and Harrow community services are looking to recruit a number of health visitors. Monica Sherry, assistant director and professional lead for community children's services, says: "Staff will be valued, supported and encouraged to innovate and we have recently created a clinical academic and innovation hub to harness specialist expertise and pioneer innovation. We are also looking for newly qualified or experienced nurses who wish to work with children and families."

SCHOOL NURSES Ealing is also recruiting for a significant number of school nurses, with the service delivered by a team of mixed-skilled practitioners. Ealing has trust-wide forums for school nursing to share best practice, is developing a masterclass programme for qualified school nurses and offers clinical and child protection supervision.

MEDICINE FOR OLDER PEOPLE "We are developing our dementia nursing strategy and refurbishing two of our wards to ensure that the environment is more empathetic and supportive of the needs of dementia patients and their carers," says Kennedy. …
