OWEN FARRELL will be sent for an MRI scan this week if he fails to recover from the foot injury that forced him off at half-time in Saracens' 28-24 win over Northampton, writes Chris Jones.

The England fly-half was hurt attempting a kick but stayed on until half-time and even succeeded with a penalty after injuring his foot.

Farrell watched the rest of the game from the stands with his foot in a plastic boot and he used crutches as he headed to hospital last night for an X-ray, which revealed he did not break a bone.

He is likely to have suffered ligament damage which would require around two weeks' rest but if the pain persists he will have an MRI scan to ensure there is no other problem.

Yesterday's victory leaves Saracens just two points away from ensuring a home play-off semi-final and Farrell has a key role to play in the climax to the season which also includes a Heineken Cup semi-final against Clermont Auvergne on April 26. …
