Daniel Bye - Story Hunt STORY Hunt was a treasure huntmeets-walking-tour of Stockton taking in the town's many presents: those that had been and those yet to come.

Following on from last year's nomination for The Price of Everything Daniel Bye invited participants to stroll by sights no longer there to be seen... or marvel at monuments yet to be raised. Story Hunt made participants think about the history and future of the town. As well as Stockton, Story Hunts also took place in Berwick and Gateshead as part of the Festival of the North East.

Daniel says: "It's great to be nominated for a Journal Culture Award for the second year running. It's a lovely endorsement of the work and, particularly in the case of this project, of its roots in the soil of the North East.

"2014 will see several more versions of Story Hunt, including Margate (with FUEL), Northampton (with Royal & Derngate), and one or two in the North East to be announced soon."

Festival of Thrift THE Festival of Thrift was the first national festival of frugality and sustainability and attracted more than 27,000 people to Lingfield Point.

The premise behind the festival, curated by award-winning designers Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway, was to bring a free cultural celebration to the people of the North East, to help them learn how to save money and the planet - and to celebrate the fun and creativity found in living thriftily.

It featured specially-commissioned works such as Home Live Art's Alternative Village Fete and Hullaballoo Theatre's 'recycled' fairytales. John Orchard, co-founder/ co-curator of the festival, says: "Festival of Thrift 2013 itself was a massive achievement for everyone involved so to be recognised by Journal Culture Award is a reward for the incredible effort everyone involved put in. …
