TICKETS are selling fast for the glittering awards night when The Journal - in partnership with North East Chamber of Commerce, UK Trade and Investment and HSBC Bank - honours the cream of the region's exporters.

But if you haven't yet secured your place at the table, then don't worry. There is still time to buy tickets for the ceremony, being held at Ramside Hall Hotel, County Durham, on Thursday, May 15.

Key speaker on the night will be Trade Minister Lord Livingston, who will hear how the region is contributing to the Government's Plan for Growth targets to more than double the value of exports to PS1tn by 2020.

Lord Livingston, formerly of BT Group, said: "I know many North East companies have already found that exporting is great and are reaping the rewards of overseas sales, with PS11.58bn exported from the region in the last 12 months.

"I am looking forward to meeting this year's award winners and I hope their success will inspire others to follow in their footsteps."

Lord (Ian) Livingston became Trade and Investment Minister in December 2013 following the retirement of Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint.

Having joined BT in 2002, he served on the BT Group board as group finance director and was chief executive of BT Retail, its consumer and small business division, before becoming chief executive of BT Group.

Prior to this, he was group finance director at Dixons Group plc from the age of 32, making him the youngest FTSE 100 CFO by some distance.
