LOCAL independent record store RPM Music is holding a special event to celebrate Record Store Day.

This international event started in 2007 when when over 700 independent stores in the USA came together to promote and raise awareness of vinyl records.

The UK followed suit and 2014 will see the seventh celebration of the UK's unique independent sector.

On Saturday, April 19, independently owned record stores will come together with artists to celebrate the art of music.

Four stores across Newcastle will be taking part but RPM Music, in Old George Yard, Newcastle have organised lots of great activities to keep collectors and music fans entertained.

Richie Lattimore, manager of RPM Music, said: "Every year the day gets bigger and this year there will be 635 special limited vinyl records and CDs exclusively released on the day.

"It's a great opportunity to celebrate the industry and to help showcase local bands."

RPM Music have arranged a great line-up of live music and there will be seven North East bands performing 30 minute sets, including Jinksi, Gallery Circus, Vinyl Jacket, Bernaccia, Schultz, Avenues and Spitfire Hostels in the courtyard outside the store from 10:30am. …
