Blaydon Race Backs Toma Fund Appeal

THOUSANDS of runners taking part in this year's Blaydon Race will be doing so in memory of Jordan Thompson.

The Toma Fund, set up by Jordan's parents Andrea and Dave after he died in September 2007 following his 19-month battle with acute myeloid leukaemia, is the chosen charity of the event which takes place in June.

The couple, of West Denton, Newcastle, wanted the fund to help others in memory of their son who was just 15 when he passed away.

Runners taking part in the event, inspired by the famous Geordie anthem, can now donate the cash they raise to the Toma Fund.

At a launch attended by fund supporter and Toon legend John Beresford, organisers Blaydon Harriers named the "very, very worthy cause" as the one to benefit from this year's run.

And John said he hoped to compete in this year's event "if the joints hold up".

Jordan's mum Andrea said: "I am just over the moon to be the chosen charity. …
