What is your greatest achievement? MY CBE from the Her Majesty the Queen is pretty special.

What are your top tips for any aspiring baker? TO FOLLOW a good recipe and keep it simple to begin with.

Choose a recipe like a traybake or sandwich cake which is easy to do and will give you confidence, then move on to more elaborate cakes.

Do you have a favourite baking gadget? DIGITAL scales. They are so accurate, especially the ones which plug into the wall rather than the battery operated ones.

Which celebrity chef would you most like to meet? I HAVE had the pleasure of working with most of the chefs which is a real treat. I learn from them and it's a joy to share tips.

If you weren't a chef what would you be? A GARDENER. I love gardening and any chance I have will be outside pruning or weeding, but only if it is fair weather!

What is your greatest extravagance? ANYTHING for the garden.

Sweet tooth or savoury? SAVOURY!

Which chefs have influenced you? IN MY earlier years of working, Jane Griegson and Katie Stewart were great influences for me.

If you had unexpected guests coming for afternoon tea in an hour, what would you bake? I WOULD make a quick traybake using the All In One method or make a batch of drop scones which I would cook in my Aga. I always have some homemade shortbread hidden in a cupboard for special visitors too.

What is your food hell? I REALLY don't like mushrooms.

What was your first job? I WORKED for the Electricity Boards doing demonstrations.

What would be your perfect holiday? I LOVE to go anywhere hot with my family.

Where do you get your fashion inspiration? I KNOW what suits me and do love a fitted jacket so will look around and see what I like. Especially in the summer, it is lovely to wear bright colours and floral stylish jackets. I try to dress my age with a bit of extra style!
