WE ARE ALL PART OF THE HUMAN RACE

Recent letters to the editor have gone to great lengths to chastise "white" racist actions against "blacks." These writers seem to feel that all whites are racists and blacks are their victims. I'm sure that all of us know of cases of racism that are the opposite, that is, blacks committing racist actions against whites. This is not "reverse" racism. It is simply racism.

We often read of incidents involving racially motivated actions taken by people of all skin colors and ethnicities against those different from them.

Any act where race is considered is, by definition, racist. Segregation of schools and affirmative action, both policies that are based on race, are racist.

One solution is to stop talking about race, start acting and treating others as members of the same race. That would be the human race.

IRANIAN AMBASSADOR SHOULD NOT ENTER U.S.

I seldom agree with Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on any issue but on this one I agree with and support wholeheartedly. Iran has chosen one of the former 1979 hostage takers and seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran to serve as its ambassador at the United Nations. Sen. Cruz is offering legislation to prevent Hamid Aboutalebi from being granted a visa to enter the United States. When he was a member of the Muslim student group that stormed the U.S. Embassy and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days, his act was that of a terrorist. Instead of being held accountable, he has been rewarded with an ambassadorship by Iran. To allow him to enter the United States would be insulting to the 52 former hostages and their families. Maybe former President Carter should have made a parking lot of Iran in 1979.

CITY SHOULD USE REAL ESTATE HOLDINGS

Enough already with the police/fire pension fund. …
