Big Insurance Jump Shocks Home Owner; Unexpected Increase of 100% in One Year but 'No Explanation' from Insurer

A HARDWORKING Mackay dad erupted in a mix of shock, anger and disbelief after receiving his latest house insurance bill -- a monster 100% increase that catapulted the cost to $3629.

"It's absolute bulls***. A disgrace!

"Last year my Suncorp insurance rose to $1807, and now it's double. When I asked why, Suncorp could give me no explanation," disbelieving home owner Stewart Parks said.

"I'm just blown away. It's such an astronomical increase. Absolutely over the top.

"It's gouging money from ordinary people for something you can't really live without. You must have insurance for your house."

Mr Parks said he had to 'ditch' his home contents insurance because of the cost. His house insurance was only to cover the building in the event of something major.

"It is very hard to take, particularly on top of the big rate increases from Mackay Regional Council. My last rates were $1721 for just six months. …
