A MAN armed with a meat cleaver threatened to kill his estranged wife and a neighbour after accusing them of having an affair, a court was told.

A lone policeman stopped the man's car in central Middlesbrough and seized the weapon as he drove to the neighbour's home.

Prosecutor Harry Had-field told Teesside Crown Court that the married neighbour, who had a van, was helping the mother of three to move her furniture into a new house when the husband turned up at 7.15am.

She was inside the house in Granville Road, Middlesbrough, when Sellathurai Sivakurunathan, 46, her husband of 13 years, took a meat cleaver from his car boot and threatened the neighbour.

The man held a wooden board across his chest to protect himself as the cleaver was pointed and waved towards him.

Sivakurunathan said: "I'm going to kill you and I'm going to kill her. I don't care about the police; I will go inside and kill her."

Mr Hadfield said the wife told her husband to go away but he stayed there and he said he was going to tell the man's wife he was having an affair. …
