THE sound of laughter, the chink of wine glasses and the soothing soul of jazz are all part of the atmosphere at Jazz on the Hill.

Perched on the scenic Kindon property Ogilvie, surrounded by some of the best views rural Queensland has to offer, Jazz on the Hill is a major fundraiser for the Kindon State School P & C.

The event has been moved forward this year to Saturday, May 31, with large crowds expected to arrive by the bus load from Toowoomba, Millmerran and Goondiwindi.

Ogilvie owner and event organiser Suzie Killen said Jazz on the Hill was started seven years ago by the old school principal and a parent - both mad foodies.

"It started on a property and was rotated every two years," she said.

"This year is the third year here at Ogilvie."

Jazz on the Hill is an outdoor event with an alfresco/picnic theme where guests can enjoy a glass of wine, kick back and listen to jazz and enjoy life's simple pleasures as they take in the stunning views from the gardens of Ogilvie.

Mrs Killen said the event's success was in its simplicity.

"Beauty of the day is its simplicity - good food, great friends, drinks and atmosphere," she said.

"It's all about the hill, the view and enjoying rural Queensland - it's an undiscovered gem.

"It would be a shame not to share and celebrate the simple pleasures in life."

The stars of the show are jazz band Cool Nights, who add some atmosphere with their soothing and soulful sound.

Mrs Killen said it wasn't typical jazz.

"Cool Nights are young and funky," she said.

"They love coming out here."

Kindon State School P & C secretary and an Ogilvie neighbour Alex Montgomery said she loved Cool Nights.

"Cool Nights are so left field from what you would expect them to be.

"It's amazing what they pull out of their hats. …
