Man Pleads Guilty to Disability Pension Fraud

AN IPSWICH man defrauded the Federal Government out of more than $56,000 when he did not declare a series of jobs.

Adrian Richards pleaded guilty at the Ipswich District Court to charges of Commonwealth fraud.

The court heard Richards has been on a disability pension for a number of years.

Due to the level of his disability he was placed on a high level of pay.

When he was placed on the pension it was on the condition he was unable to work more than eight hours in a week, and had to inform the Department of Human Service of any changes to his work situation.

However, an investigation by the department discovered Richards had worked in a series of jobs between 2004 and 2007.

For one job in 2007 the court heard he was working up to 38 hours a week.

He hadn't told the department about any changes in his working conditions.

The court heard his pension had been overpaid by $56,963. …
