Mollasses Has the Recipe for Success

MOLLASSES is a fairly optimistic selection to seize the moment in the Chartplan Handicap at Lingfield.

The Authorized filly looked pretty smart at this track on her handicap bow at the beginning of April and should improver further with this step up to a mile and a half.

Jonny Portman's three-year-old realistically had no chance in superhot maidens, won by the likes of Taghrooda and Enraptured, as a juvenile.

She was, though, not entirely disgraced at huge odds at Ascot and twice at Newmarket, which perhaps gave connections plenty of hope that she would run well off a mark of 70 in a mile-and-a-quarter fillies' handicap Lingfield on April 3. So it proved, as Mollasses, who was stepping up in trip from a mile, went down by just two lengths to Sequined, who looks above average.

That effort deserved to be upgraded, too, as there was hardly a breakneck gallop from the outset.

A faster pace would have suited Portman's filly as she came from quite a long way back after having looked pretty naive during the early exchanges.

Mollasses has top weight back at Lingfield, but her wise trainer but will be well satisfied she has been left alone by the assessor, while everything she has done so far tends to indicate this trip could be made to measure.

This is also her easiest task to date by quite some distance.

Wickhambrook is most certainly of interest in the the KC Facilities Handicap.

Ismail Mohammed's colt was a little unfortunate in a seven-race maiden campaign, but he at least finally hit the target over seven furlongs at Warwick last October. The son of Dubawi then ran well to a point back a few weeks later at Windsor, but he found a mile too much to handle on soft ground.

That Wickhambrook reverts to seven furlongs for his seasonal debut deserves close scrutiny. …
