Quakers Furious after Red Card Drama in Play-Off

DARLINGTON 1883 0 RAMSBOTTOM UNITED 2 DARLINGTON were furious with referee Kevin Mulraine after they were controversially beaten by Ramsbottom in their play-off semi-final at Heritage Park last night.

The ref only showed yellow to Ramsbottom full-back Owen Roberts for a disgraceful challenge in the opening seconds, and then booked two Darlington players just on halftime. And soon after the break, the ref controversially sent off Quakers' star player, Stephen Thompson, for two bookable offences.

Roberts collected the fastest booking of the season after just 16 seconds when he felled Darlington's Leon Scott in the centre circle, and was lucky not to see red. Scott had to be subbed by Jack Walker and was stretchered off with a suspected broken leg.

Ramsbottom took the lead with their first corner on 23 minutes, which was swung deep to the far post by Grant Spencer for Billy Priestley to head in from six yards. They broke through again on 32 minutes when Jordan Hulme played a 1-2 down the left, ran into the box, and rolled the ball past Bell. …
