INDIAN Association Central Queensland president Shyam Nimavat welcomed a large gathering of association members and guests to the Baisakhi and various state New Year nights at Bauhinia House on April13.

A full and entertaining cultural program was hosted by Sunny Nimavat.

Mr Nimavat said the IACQ took great pleasure in welcoming their chief guest Cr Glenda Mather.

Cr Mather was formally welcomed by the culture secretary Mrs Pooja Beotra and Mrs Sara Nimavat, before enjoying dance and Bollywood song performances by Mr Sid, Dr Vijay Prahalad, Ms Priyanka Rao, the Gracemere Gems, Ms Swenny Parmar, Gidda by the Panjabi group and the Bhangra harvest dance.

Traditional food was served by members of the Panjabi community and the event was coordinated by members of the IACQ team.

Mr Nimavat said Baisakhi was an important Sikh festival to mark New Year's Day in the Indian state of Punjab. …
