Hoodoo Haunts Workers; Thistles Have the Edge on Their Lismore Cross-Town Rivals

LISMORE Workers will be looking to break their recent hoodoo against Lismore Thistles when the two prem-iership contenders square off at Thistles Park today in Far North Coast premier league soccer.

The Redmen were denied a place in the Anzac Cup final by their loss to the Blues in the semi-finals and also missed out on a place in last year's grand final due to to another semi loss to Thistles.

"They've had the wood on us in recent times, especially in the big games," Workers coach Scott Collis said.

"They have the best defence in the league with Brad Robertson in goals and Max Hospers marshalling their backline, so they're always hard to break down.

"We'll give Bill Latimer more of an attacking role with Shaun McDonald up front and look to our flankers Paddy Kable and Jamie Hill to push forward."

While Collis has a full-strength squad at his disposal, Blues coach Rod Lees will be without livewire striker Jake Nind and possibly two other key players in Darren Beardow and Matt Armstrong. …
