Roadshow Returns with More Laughs; Festival Favourites to Fill Stage

Article excerpt

THIS cast of intrepid travelling comedians can't be confined to Melbourne's comedy rooms any longer so they're back on the road to entertain crowds.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow will roll into the Clarence Valley at the end of this month with a huge show featuring some of the best from one of the world's biggest comedy festivals.

After 15 years of traversing the many highways of this wide, brown land, the Roadshow is back with another jam-packed tour.

Think cult film Almost Famous but swap out the musicians for some comedians, replace USA for Australia's smaller cities and rural towns, add in plenty of humour and multiply the number of group singalongs.

The Roadshow transports fresh-faced and well-known comedians from the fancy theatres of Comedy Festival headquarters to Hobart, Hong Kong and every venue in between in the ultimate comedy odyssey.

In 2003, the Roadshow enjoyed enormous success performing more than 109 shows in more than 60 regional towns and cities across Australia, before concluding the tour with a sell-out international leg conquering Singapore, Hong Kong and India.

With a mix of local heroes and international stars as well as the hottest new discoveries of the Festival, all your comedy bases will be covered.

The roll call for 2014 show at the Saraton Theatre on May 30 includes Cal Wilson, American Greg Behrendt, Beau Heartbreaker, Harley Breen and David Quirk.

The show goes for more than two hours and is suitable for a mature audience.

Tickets on sale on the Saraton's website.

Read more about the comedians in next week's OUT THERE including an interview with the roadshow's host and TV regular Cal Wilson.

Meet Harley Breen

BREEN has been blowing away audiences from the Melbourne to the sweaty stages of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Regularly headlining around Australia, Breen has won over a legion of fans with his accessible and relatable comedy. …
