A BILLINGHAM school has celebrated the opening of its new-look state-of-the-art building.

Stockton's Mayor Councillor Barbara Inman cut the ribbon on the new facilities at Northfield School and Sports College.

It was back to the old school for Councillor Inman, a former teacher who has previously worked at Northfield.

Pupils and parents were invited to the opening evening, including a tour of the new areas led by the school's prefects.

Staff were also on hand to talk about the positive impact the new building is having upon the students' achievement.

The school's new areas include technology and engineering, ICT suites, learning zone, art, maths, lift facility, dining halls, school entrance and parking.

Since 2009, the school has been operating from two sites.

Building work on the Thames Road site started in January 2013 and finished in April.
