RUGBY LEAGUE: It should be one of the most daunting tasks in rugby league but Glen Dreger is thrilled with the chance to take the reins of the besieged Sunshine Coast.

The 43-year-old was appointed interim coach this week after ex-Brisbane Broncos mentor Ivan Henjak quit amid speculation Canterbury was planning to form an affiliation with the club and replace him.

Dreger inherited a team which is battered and bruised and in the midst of a disturbing state league record losing streak.

But he's certainly not overwhelmed by it all.

"Some people probably say I'm pretty silly taking on a team that's had 29 straight losses, but it's an opportunity," he said.

"I didn't hesitate to have a crack."

Dreger has been coach of the Sunshine Coast Colts (under-20) side for the past two years and is the region's development officer.

He knows how much talent is coming through the ranks at a junior level but is now focused on helping the Coast's main senior side re-emerge as a threat. …
