THE Indee reports some pews are already full as Dibley-ites come flocking, after news the new vicar will finally arrive on the Sunshine Coast next Friday.

When the Church of England changed its laws in 1992 to allow the ordination of women, it couldn't possibly have foreseen it would inspire a top-rating TV comedy series that would run for over 13 years.

Writers Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer certainly saw the possibilities, so Curtis and the show's star, Dawn French, researched the role of vicar, by extensively consulting one of the UK's first female priests, Joy Carroll.

Thus came about the Vicar of Dibley.

Set in a fictitious village, most of the series was shot in the extremely picturesque village of Turville and the filming fees must have boosted the local council's finances considerably.

Turville has also been the setting for many other movies and telly shows including Midsomer Murders.

Now the hilarious stage version of The Vicar of Dibley comes to the Sunshine Coast when it opens at The Independent Theatre at Eumundi next Friday. …
