Queensland Honours Ease Pain of Met West's State Final Loss

THE pain of an extra-time defeat was evident on the faces of the Met West footballers who came so close to winning a state under-19 schools championship.

Defending champions Met North denied the home side glory for the second year in a row.

This time, it was with a 3-2 extra-time grand final victory after two own goals at Brassall on Sunday.

However, some of the anguish was eased with four Met West boys earning state selection.

That included St Peter Claver College pair Martin Aninov and Dylan Wenzel-Halls, who were chosen to represent Queensland at the national titles in Sydney from August 24-29.

Another college student Danyon Mollee was named as a shadow player.

SPCC had eight players in the Met West boys side and two in the regional girls team which played at the Ipswich Grammar School fields.

The locally-based boys were disappointed losing the final after drawing 0-0 with Met North in their opening clash of the four-day tournament. …
