PERPLEXED Toowoomba trainer Steve Tregea is hoping the axiom its "horses for courses" is applicable as he ponders the immediate future of his former stable star Baqaba.

The winner of the 2010 Rockhampton Newmarket and runner-up to Our Boy Malachi again last year, Baqaba is one of 13 entries in a rather moderate Tattersalls Sprint (1200m) at Callaghan Park on Friday.

Since the halcyon three days of his career from June 24 to 26, 2010 when Baqaba backed-up after winning the Newmarket to finish second in the Rockhampton Cup (1600m), he has never won since.

Tregea agreed that the only semblance of form in the 16 runs since was Baqaba's Rocky Newmarket second on June 20 last year as an $80 chance.

"He seems to have developed a phobia about racing on wet tracks. His last few runs down here (Toowoomba, Dalby and Moore) have been terrible on the rain-affected tracks. At Moree he hit a wet patch and just stopped. …
