BALLINA fullback Brett Kelly might have to visit a surf shop and buy a couple of Hawaiian shirts after his performance in the NSW Country Rugby League Championships.

Kelly is believed to be firmly in the running for the NSW Country team.

The team is scheduled for a trip to Hawaii later in the year where they will take on the United States national team the Tomahawks.

Kelly played in the Northern Rivers open side for the first time at the weekend and was a standout in a 50-24 win over Riverina at Singleton.

Northern Rivers hasn't had a NSW Country representative since his older brother Clarence Kellyback in 2008.

Brett has already won over Penrith Panthers premiership-winning lock and Northern Rivers coach Scott Sattler.

"Brett Kelly was far and away the best player of the day in any game," Sattler said.

"It was a mind-blowing performance; his talk and involvement was amazing.

"The Country selectors stood up and definitely took notice. …
