THERE'S a lot at stake at Tynedale today, with the leadership of the NTSL on the line as well as the only remaining unbeaten records in the top division.

Shotley Bridge make the trek up to Hexham knowing victory will put them clear at the top and also ensure they will be the only team left without an unwelcome tick in the defeats column.

Both sides sport a record of three wins and three draws to date, with Tynedale holding a five-point advantage after they managed to squeeze some play out of a wet afternoon when most other teams were idle.

There is little doubt that when they get on the field Bridge are exhibiting championship form, their three wins to date coming by the significant margins of eight wickets, 99 and 167 runs.

Skipper Peter Collingwood was keen to stress before the season began that the club had a number of good quality youngsters coming through, and they have repaid his faith with Graeme Brinton and Joe Gibson in particular impressing.

Tynedale have won their three games batting first each time, and their margins of victory have been on a par with the Bridge's, last week's 41-run win over Ponteland their closest call after previously registering 143- and 99-run successes.

The Bridge show just one change for the trip north, with Daniel Rees back from his travels and replacing Jonathan Telford.

Burnopfield were lifted by their first victory of the season when they defeated Ashington last week, although it didn't quite get them out of the bottom two.

But they have the chance to go for another win today with hosts Consett having to manage without the services of star man Gareth Breese as he's on Durham duty.

With Davey Anderson and Mark Dixon also on the unavailability list, Paul Ringer's return from honeymoon is timely, while Adam Tams and Andy Stokoe are in the frame again after missing out because of work last week. …
