Two Residents Named in Queen's List of Honours

TWO Tweed Shire residents were awarded with Queen's Birthday Honours on Monday.

Finley Ivan Mackay of Tweed Heads was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his heavy involvement in the community over the years.

"I was rather tickled pink," Mr Mackay said.

"As far as I'm concerned, this is not just for me.

"It's for all those people who encouraged me and patted me on the back along the way."

Mr Mackay said he was grateful for everyone who encouraged him in his pursuits throughout the years.

He is a former Wommin Bay Hostel chairman, founder of the Wally McKissock Foundation and a founding member of the Association of Independent Retirees.

Mr Mackay hosted bingo games every week between 1993 and 2011 and raised considerable funds for the Wommin Bay village.

He was a director and founding member of Tweed Heads Bowls Club, Neighbourhood Watch and the Police Community Consultative Committee, among others.

Mr Mackay said his community effort over the years was like a domino effect. …
