New Course Record Will Be Hard to Beat

A ROUND of 63 by Pioneer Valley golfer Peter Brittain has set the mark for the club's new red tees.

The new tees were used for the first time on the weekend and have reduced the course distance, establishing pars of 69 for the men and 76 for the women.

Although the red tees aren't a part of regular competition yet, Brittain is hoping to introduce them into next year's calendar and has issued a challenge for both amateurs and professionals to beat his record.

Brittain's six under par round included 12 pars and six birdies.

"I could do nothing wrong," he said.

"Even a long putt for par, I dished it."

He said the new marks created a virtually different golf course.

"We have four par fives, and from the new marks, three of them are reduced to par fours," he said. …
