Trott out as Stokes Strikes for Seconds

BEN Stokes took the prize wicket of Jonathan Trott for Durham seconds yesterday.

With a free week for the first team, Stokes was playing to get more overs in his legs after being left out of tomorrow's first England v Sri Lanka Test because he had not bowled enough since returning from a broken wrist.

Stokes has played two County Championship matches in that period, topped up by four Twenty20 games, as well as appearance for the second and academy teams.

The 23-year-old got through 13 overs on a first day restricted to 73.4, taking the wicket of Trott, the man he replaced in this winter's Ashes side. Trott was lbw for 43.

Trott is making his return after flying home from the tour complaining of a "stress-related illness".

At the close of day one, Warwickshire were 224-5. Paul Coughlin, who opened the bowling with Stokes, took 2-30, while fellow all-rounder Usman Arshad chipped in with 2-40.

Former England international Jim Troughton was the Bears' top-scorer with a painstaking 62 from 133 deliveries before he was bowled by Scotland Under-19 bowler Main. …
