GOLF: THE Gympie Veteran Golfers committee will have a special meeting on Wednesday, June 25, to discuss the overwhelming response from members to a personal invitation seeking their ideas and suggestions on how to better manage and improve their golfing experience.

The committee had planned to consider the recommendations at last Thursday's monthly meeting but given the huge response it was decided that more time was needed to carefully consider every suggestion.

Vets president Bryan Stallard said only a handful of members failed to respond to the invitation and he was confident at least 50% of the ideas were achievable.

"Ninety-five members responded and I was very impressed with most of the suggestions which range from special competitions to better cater for members aged over 75 years, more input from members into tee and pin placements, actively supporting the Club Pro, course improvements and more involvement from our lady vets," said Stallard.

"Interestingly we also had a quite a few comments from members in support of the current committee and how they didn't see a need to change anything."

All the suggestions have been written up on a whiteboard located in the clubhouse and Vets secretary Gerry Entwistle said it was important members read the suggestions and let committee members know their most favoured proposals.

"The response has been nothing short of amazing and with so many great ideas it's going to be hard choosing, but ultimately some of the suggestions with respect to changing and improving the course through use of volunteers will ultimately be up to the course owners to decide on," said Entwistle.

On Tuesday, two of the club's lower markers proved to be the top team in the 4BBB Stableford event.

Don Griggs and Ray Rigbye put together the winning score of 47 points which was one point ahead of Jeff Mason and Lester Pettit, with Tom Siddins and Kevin Schmitt taking third spot on a count back from George Doody and Ian Haddow. …
