TFL Should Be Selling Its Expertise across the World, Says Minister

TRANSPORT for London should do more to sell its expertise overseas, according to the Government's cities minister.

Tory MP Greg Clark said there was "huge interest" around the world in the achievements of TfL such as its performance during the Olympics and this should be commercially exploited.

He said TfL could emulate RATP, its French equivalent, which runs underground railways around the world, as well as tram and bus operations, including London's United bus service. The call comes as TfL seeks to boost its non-fare revenues following a 12.5 per cent cut in its government grant.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Cities Summit in Singapore, Mr Clark said: "There's huge recognition of the value of that experience.

"One of my messages to take back to the Mayor and TfL would be that there is huge interest that can be turned into a commercial opportunity. In the heyday of BAA they ran airports around the world, they built and ran numerous airports and the discipline of running airports in a modern and commercial way was where we had a head start. …
