Young Blood Has Western Spirit Unit Pumping

WESTERN Spirit return home tonight buoyed by six wins from seven games and everything to play for.

The club is also on the rise thanks to a talented brigade of young players, including Lachlan Spurr, Corey Lucas, Andy Jarrett and Matthew Abraham.

Last weekend's 2-0 local derby win over Ipswich City lifted Spirit into fifth place, just two points behind second-placed Newmarket.

Spirit co-coach Michael Brown couldn't be happier with his Capital League 2 team's recent resurgence as they prepare to play third-placed Redcliffe at Kippen Park, Goodna, tonight.

"It's another big game for us," Brown said, delighted to have won his first derby as a coach last Friday night.

"We've got ourselves into a position now where our destiny is in our own hands."

Although realising complacency can creep in during a winning run, Brown said the enthusiastic younger players should ensure the team remains focused in the 6pm clash.

"I don't think it's an issue but it's something that I have keep on top of," Brown said. …
