London Is Ad Capital of World, Says Man Behind John Lewis Campaign

JOHN LEWIS'S advertising agency today hailed London's "gravitational pull" in attracting international talent and clients, after being named the best ad firm in the world.

James Murphy chief executive of Adam & Eve DDB, said its victory at Cannes Lions, the advertising industry's most prestigious international awards, was "testament to the vitality of London".

The Paddington-based company is best known for its Christmas ads for John Lewis, such as animation The Bear And The Hare, with its Lily Allen soundtrack, and The Snowman, which saw a snowman go on a long journey to bring a gift of a scarf, gloves and a hat for a snowwoman.

Its Harvey Nichols campaign I'm Sorry I Spent It On Myself, which saw people giving terrible gifts at Christmas so they could buy themselves something fabulous, also won an award at Cannes , as did its work for Marmite, Google, Volkswagen, and Diageo.

Mr Murphy co-founded the agency in 2008, and it has rapidly become one of the hottest outfits in adland, forging a reputation for high-quality campaigns. …
