IT was a time of great struggle and strife for many families in the North East.

And now some of the most powerful images and footage from the Miners' Strike of 30 years ago have been brought together in a special DVD produced by a Northumberland history roup.

The Greatest Struggle oncentrates on mining owns and villages in Northumberland and Duram, exploring the yearong strike which brought reat hardships on pit ommunities.

John Dawson, secretary f history group Six ownships, said members ad wanted to mark the 0th anniversary of the trike.

"This has been on the go or a while now. We tried to concentrate mainly on the North East.

"We looked at collieries from all over," said the 59-year-old, from Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

"We wanted to show people what it was like locally instead of nationally for a change.

"It was a very hard time for everybody. I was a coal miner in Ellington colliery. …
