Focus on Our Youth; City's Long-Term Planning Needs

CHILDREN and teenagers miss out in this town, and their need for better playgrounds and entertainment venues should be a focus of long-term planning in the region.

That's the message from a straw poll of people in the Gladstone region conducted by The Observer this week.

A Tenpin bowling alley, another water park, paintball and more sports facilities are just some of the suggestions from Gladstone region residents.

"I would like to see more parklands for children," said Charlie Gillingham, who would be keen to enjoy more spaces like Spinnaker Park.

Ashleigh Bartholomew wants to see trampolining take off in Gladstone, and suggested an indoor play centre for kids.

"We need a good track and field oval," said Carolyn Davidson. Also on locals' radar is the need for new places to shop. "I'd like to see more shops open on the main street, at the moment it's looking very dead down there," said Judy Coop.

Jess and Troy Saunders agree, and suggest longer opening hours would help. …
