SHE came here as a Christmas present, but now Barbara Conway hopes to be much more to the community of Gladstone.

This week's Welcome Wednesday has so far been involved anything she can in her short time of living here.

Mrs Conway moved to Gladstone in late December from Dallas, Texas after her husband relocated here for work on Curtis Island.

"I was his Christmas present - he knew I was coming, but he kept saying you better make it here for Christmas," she said.

Since moving to Gladstone Mrs Conway has become involved in a number of community organisations.

"I do craft on Tuesdays and I'm also involved with Welcoming Intercultural Neighbours, and I've been attending city council meetings ... I've met so many people from various countries, I think that is what makes life interesting."
