Idea of Ice Rink for Park Warms Hearts

IMAGINE ice skating across Queens Park on a crisp winter's night in Toowoomba.

It's an idea that warms the hearts of Garden City residents.

A push is on to have an ice rink set up in Queens Park during Toowoomba's colder months.

The proposal was put forward by one of The Chronicle's Facebook fans after they saw a similar initiative at Bondi Beach in Sydney.

They said Toowoomba's own version in Queens Park would attract tourists and give children something to do during the winter school holidays.

Residents supported the idea.

Caroline Sloane said it was a "great idea" and one that would keep young people entertained during the school holidays.

"We have just spent a week in Rotorua and they have an ice rink set up in the park for the school holidays," she said.

"It travels around and sets up in different towns. And it was brilliant, it was packed and our grandchildren had a ball."
