TOOWOOMBA'S QBL play-off aspirations are hanging by a thread after the Mountaineers went down to pool rivals Ipswich at USQ on Saturday night.

A sluggish third quarter cost the Mountaineers women in their 84-71 loss while the men's team was blown off the court in the opening term to lose 97-79.

The Toowoomba women were under the pump even before the tip-off with LaNedra Brown (ankle) and Janelle Adams (knee) both unavailable due to injury.

But the Mountaineers didn't let that faze them as they led Ipswich at quarter-time before the scores were locked up 36-36 at halftime.

However, Ipswich's greater playing depth proved decisive after the break as the Force laid on 28-12 for the third quarter to claim a clean sweep over Toowoomba this season.

Mountaineers captain Kisha Lee stepped up with a huge 35 points and 12 rebounds but her efforts were matched by former Toowoomba team mate Chelsie Schweers, who scored 36 points for Ipswich. …
