Walsh Back from Spin to Retain Lead

ASH Walsh put his Saturday frustrations to bed with a near faultless win in the Dunlop V8 Supercar Development Series at Townsville on Sunday.

The race win was critical to Walsh's title chase, ensuring he left Townsville with the points lead still in his pocket.

The lead had appeared in danger on Saturday when the Yamanto racer was taken out within sight of the chequered flag.

He was leading when Cam Waters made contact with the rear of Walsh's FG Ford Falcon on the final corner of the 29-lap race, sending Walsh into a spin.

Waters crossed the line first but later incurred a 30-second penalty for his recklessness, handing Chris Pither his first race win.

Keen to make amends in race two on Sunday, Walsh (pictured) knew he had to leave his frustrations behind him.

"It was important not to not get carried away with what happened, so I just chilled out with the Matt Stone guys and looked at our plan of attack," Walsh said.

"I am always thinking of the championship so it was really important to ensure we kept the points lead. …
