C harity champ backs our aFUNDRAISING champion is urging nominations for those who devote their lives to helping others.

Yesterday, we launched in the Chronicle Champions Awards 2014 in a bid to celebrate the extraordinary people living across our area.

Last year, Lynn McManus picked up our Champion Fundraiser award after she helped set up the Tim Lamb Children's Centre in North Tyneside.

Since opening its doors in 2012, the centre has reached thousands of children as well as supporting their siblings and parents.

Today, Lynn, 53, said: "Winning last year was wonderful and I would love to see more deserving people getting a nomination. "Sometimes when someone is working so hard they might wonder why they're going to such lengths to help, so it's nice to show appreciation of good deeds."

Lynn, of North Shields, is backing our bid to find some of 2014's most deserving people across the region. This year's ceremony will be held at The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle on Thursday, November 27.

What are this year's categories? Each of our 12 categories will be judged by our sponsors and ourselves here at the The Chronicle before three shortlisted finalists for each category are picked.

Champion Fundraiser sponsored by npower: An individual or group who has made a real difference to people's lives in their charity fundraising efforts. These are people that have gone the extra mile for others.

Outstanding Act of Bravery sponsored by Blueline Taxis: Do you know someone who has used their initiative in a crisis, tackled criminals or even saved a life? This is to honour a person who has demonstrated an outstanding act of bravery, whether it be a member of the public or emergency services.

Champion Child of Courage sponsored by Northumbrian Water: This award is for a youngster who in his or her young life has already displayed remarkable courage and provides an example for others to follow.

Champion Business sponsored by Bernicia: This award celebrates excellence in community support from corporate companies and seeks to identify those organisations which best exemplify the social and community spirit which is at the core of North East culture. …
