I AM about to fly to Tenerife, where I have a holiday home. I want to take a clock radio with me. Should I pack it in my hold luggage or take it as cabin baggage? -- David Royston

AS you know, last week the rules on cabin baggage changed suddenly and dramatically. The Department for Transport says any electronic devices that you plan to take into the cabin must be capable of being powered up.

The reason: a perceived threat of sophisticated bombs using explosives packed into the battery compartment of mobile phones, e-readers, tablet computers or the like. The vast majority of passengers won't experience anything different from the normal airport security process; the central search procedure remains exactly the same as usual. Any additional checks will take place at the gate shortly before boarding.

The DFT won't say which flights/ routes will be affected, though I understand domestic departures are not included. …
