REGAN'S REWARD; Hard Work, Dedication Pays off with Tour Selection

RUGBY LEAGUE: Mackay's Regan Grieve has had a year to remember.

The prodigiously talented rugby league player received the ultimate junior honour, when he was selected in the Australian Schoolboys side to tour England and France later this year.

Grieve, who relocated to Townsville to further his rugby league career, captained the Townsville Stingers representative side to the under-18 National Championship in May.

He was also the captain of the Queensland Schoolboys side that competed in the national championships in Darwin last week.

His coach at Kirwan High School in Townsville, Dave Ackers said Grieve's work ethic was the main reason behind his selection.

"He (Grieve) is up at 5.30am three or four days a week to train," Ackers said. "A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into him reaching the pinnacle of schoolboys footy."

Ackers said the uncompromising backrower was not only a strong player but a student of the game. …
