Bruce Hwy Now Safer for Drivers

MOTORISTS are benefiting from a safety boost thanks to the completion of a $2.2million project to widen hundreds of kilometres of centre lines on the Bruce Hwy in the Mackay region.

Member for Mirani Ted Malone said the project was a great example of his government's stronger plan for a brighter future for all Queensland motorists.

"The 1m wide centre lines have been marked on 181km of highway from Granite Ck, south of St Lawrence, to Greta Ck, north of Proserpine," Mr Malone said.

"Works completed recently bring the total distance of wide centre lines on the Bruce Hwy in the region to 227km.

"This is a much-needed safety boost for the thousands of drivers who travel this section each day.

"Wide centre line marking is designed to reduce head-on collisions by providing a greater separation between oncoming vehicles.

"The line marking also creates a buffer zone for motorists to more safely manoeuvre around vehicles stopped on the side of the road, without having to enter the opposing lane. …
