It Really Is the Only Way for One to Arrive at Work!

ARETIRING lollipop lady arrived in style for her last day of work.

Sylvia Hall, who finally decided to hang up her lollipop after 33 years at Cestria Primary School, in Chester-le-Street, was treated to a ride in an open-top horse and carriage for her last day.

Sylvia, of Appledore Gardens, in the town, has been keeping children safe as they cross the busy Picktree Lane to get to school for generations.

Her daughter, Jacqueline Hall, also of Chester-le-Street, organised the open-top horse and carriage to ride by and pick her up as she did her afternoon duty on the day of her retirement.

A crowd of friends and wellwishers hid around the corner as the beautiful white carriage and dashing black horses, driven by a smart, morning-suited coachman in a top hat, appeared over the rise to the surprise of the retiring lollipop lady.

It was an emotional farewell to a long career, devoted to looking after children come rain or shine. …
